As part of the Resource Hub to Strengthen Indigenous Rights and parallel to the COP 26 and webinar on Climate Change and Indigenous Rights Equitable origin held an in person seminar directly from Glasgow UK on October 10th. The event was led by Johnson Cerda , member of the GEF\/NGO Committee that represents the indigenous peoples of Latin America. The objective of this meeting was to update the participants of the seminar on the progress and challenges of the COP 26 and to see the practical application of the knowledge acquired during the virtual sessions.<\/p>\n

Johnson commented on the developments of COP 26 and the prominence of Indigenous Peoples at the conference, which was attended by nearly 150 indigenous delegates from around the world. Johnson pointed out that unfortunately, no concrete agreements have been reached regarding financing for the mitigation of the effects of climate change. There are proposals, but there is still no consensus. This is mostly the case in relation to the inclusion of the rights of Indigenous Peoples in Article 6 of the Paris Agreement , which defines the determined contributions of the parties to the agreement, and the legal framework for these contributions.<\/p>\n
Likewise, Eileen Marena participated during the event as a guest speaker. Eileen is an observer from the Green Fund, who actively participated in the COP 26 in the spaces where Indigenous Peoples were able to present their demands and proposals for the mitigation of the negative effects of climate change in their territory. Eileen commented on the development of the negotiations where she highlighted the prioritization of issues related to financing and inclusion of knowledge of indigenous peoples as essential for managing the negative effects of Climate Change in indigenous territories.<\/p>\n
