Number 111 of Population Notes has a particularity that distinguishes it from previous issues. The December 2020 publication echoes the unprecedented moment that not only the Latin American and Caribbean region is experiencing, but the entire world, as a result of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, which has transformed the daily life of all human beings, keeping us waiting for a vaccine that will lead us to a new normal. Hence, the Editorial Committee of Public Notes decided to open the doors of the magazine to show the situation in which we are immersed, through a broader call that included, in addition to traditional topics, studies and reflections on the impacts of COVID- 19 in the demographic dynamics of the countries of the region, with special interest in the old and new vulnerabilities that have become more visible in the midst of the health emergency and that, as we can imagine, pose enormous challenges for the already crowded population agenda and development for 2030.
