In the community of Wajoya, on the Napo River banks in Peru, the Kwakiyo Women’s Association gathers 29 indigenous women from the Siekopaai Nationality of Peru.
Kwakiyo takes its name from a gray bird that inhabits the jungle and symbolizes collective care, the protection of life, and a deep connection with nature. Inspired by this story, the women of the association work with clay and handicrafts, keeping ancestral knowledge, the memory of their grandmothers, and their bond with the land alive.
Through initiatives such as traditional pottery, the association promotes local bioeconomy alternatives that strengthen families and contribute to the protection of the Amazon rainforest. For this reason, Kwakiyo symbolizes community life, family care, and harmony with the rainforest.
